Browning Associates - Landed a job, but it was NOTHING like what I thought I purchased...
I kept extremely detailed notes of my entire experience with Browning associates - from the initial conversation with the sales person, all the way through when I was offered a position. I will list out my feedback below:
Let me first start by pointing out the positives:
1. I got a job and it was at the income I was satisfied with.
2. My resume was top notch (although I was promised it would be completed in 2-3 weeks and it took 6 weeks to receive the final version)
While I landed the job and had a nice resume, overall, I was VERY dissatisfied with my experience with Browning Associates.
During the sales pitch I was sold on the depth of "The Browning Network". I was skeptical about paying 100% of my $15,000 fee upfront, but was assured that the value and contacts in the network would get me where I wanted to be.
It's a joke... They connected me with 10 or 11 people, but only one of them was even above a director level. All but one person I spoke to had NOTHING to offer me and was not at the SVP and C-Suite level that the initial training video you receive when you join promised. It was a lot of mid-level managers.
I was told some obscure story about how they used their network to help a guy become the head of marketing for F1 Racing, or something like that. I don't believe it at this point.
Furthermore, I met with Melanie every week. There was certainly some value in our conversations and she helped me with networking skills. However, the conversations became very repetitive after a few short weeks. Once we got through the initial coaching around what I needed to do to network, there was really no new value added.
I wound up finding a job through networking efforts with personal contacts on LinkedIn. While Browning Associates' coaching was helpful in my success, I can't say for certain that I would not have found the same job without their help.
I had several calls with Michael Merigan and John Seraichek to express my displeasure with the relationship and service I was receiving. They were nothing but defensive and took no accountability.
By the time I found my job, I had no longer been communicating with my coach for several months because it was a waste of my time.
Although I know I sound (and probably should be) more upset than I am, in the end, I am just happy to have a job again after being out of work for 16 months. While I did find value, there is NO WAY the service I paid for at Browning Associates was worth $15,000 - especially with them holding no risk.
If I had paid $4-5,000, I wouldn't be writing this. That's about what I think the service is worth. The information and coaching were helpful, but don't be fooled - if it's anything like my experience, you are going to do 90% of the work.
I was sold on the idea that I would have a team working for me - that's how I justified the expense. It was a great disappointment and nothing came from said "team".
The moral of the story? Proceed with caution and weigh your options greatly before cutting a check. And don't do it because you think their network will get you a job.
I don't expect anything at this point. I have already spoken to them at length and expect nothing. Let my story be a cautionary tale.

Let me start off by saying that if you simply want to find your next Job – Browning is probably not the best choice for you.
John has assembled an outstanding team of professionals and a process that will enable you to identify what your next move is and how to go about it.
The process certainly takes more time than simply crafting an excellent resume (and they did that too). Like everything in life – you will get out of it what you put into it. If you do the homework, they ask of you. Work hard with your coach, and make the calls, you will grow personally and build lifetime skills.
For me – John and the team were a real lifesavers. I moved to a MUCH better place and could not be happier for my investment
